"OK. Great... more mods...." - That's probably whats passing through your head right now.

I'm writing this guide so that maybe those who are a bit reluctant on modding up can try to mod IL2 with the HSFX mods which appear to be the new standard.

Step 1. If you're fond of 4.08.... back up your IL2 folder. If not I'd recommend a fresh install even though the information say that they'll remove the mods for you. Doesn't really matter to be honest.

For the love of God don't forget to back up your beloved paint schemes!!!!

Step 2. Install 4.09m. The patch can be found here; http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/9861059397

Step 3. You'll need the HSFX Mod 4.0. This can be found here:

Once all files have downloaded, run HSFX_Version_4.exe

The install process is pretty much self explanatory.

Step 4. You will need the HSFX Mod 4.1. This can be found here:

OK. So here they decided to make use of torrents for distribution of the patch.
"Torrents? What the hell are torrents?!"
It is a method of data/file distribution. Put simply, picture a web. The centre of the web is person with the original file for distribution (lets call him 1)... in this case HSFX_Version_4_1.exe.
Person number 2 connects to 1 and starts downloading the files from 1. While 2 is downloading the files from one 3 comes along and starts downloading stuff from both 1 and 2... Stuff that 3 gets from 1 is not necessarily already available at 2... so 3 gives the data required by 2 and so on and so forth... on a much larger scale.

To handle torrents a program is required. I suggest using uTorrent which can be found here:

I got uTorrent... now what?
Download the torrent file http://161.53.204.25/TEST/HSFX_Version_4_1.EXE.torrent and open it with uTorrent.

Should look something like this:

Press Ok (make sure you ticked the file).

There you can see the file being downloaded to your PC. Seeds are the people sending you data, Peers (or Leechers) are taking data from you. I suggest limiting the upload to 10kb/s to prevent internet browsers from failing you... This can be done by right clicking the bottom right and limiting the upload to whatever...

After the file is fully downloaded (the bar reaches 100%) remove the file or you'll be basically wasting your upload bandwidth...

Now you should have HSFX_Version_4_1.EXE to wherever your uTorrent should have downloaded it.

Install it...

Step 5. Ok the final step to modify mods:

Look on your desktop or in the il2 Sturmovik 46 folder for JGSME.exe

In JGSME you will see several options on the left. The important one is to enable is the
HSFX HISTORY MOD

(apply it so that it moves from the Left window to the Right)

You are now ready to run IL-2 HSFX Version 4.1.
